The technology

The technology behind true-to-life 3D.

MetaScan captures reality at studio grade — professional multi-camera photogrammetry, AI 3D reconstruction, and automatic rigging working together to turn a real person into a lifelike, rigged, export-ready 3D model. Here's how it works.

The capture pipeline

From photons to a rigged 3D model.

Every scan runs the same pipeline — capture, reconstruct, finish, rig, and export. Each stage is engineered so the model that comes out looks unmistakably like the real subject that went in.

Step 01

Multi-camera capture

Our studio-grade station photographs you from every angle at the same instant — body, face, and clothing frozen together in a single moment. No green screen, no motion blur, no missing angles. This is photogrammetry done right: dozens of synchronized viewpoints instead of one slow sweep.

Photogrammetry · Synchronized capture
Step 02

AI 3D reconstruction

Those images are fused into a dense, accurate 3D reconstruction. AI solves the geometry, aligns every viewpoint, and rebuilds the true shape and surface of the real subject — the depth and proportions that make a scan read as unmistakably you.

AI reconstruction · Dense geometry
Step 03

Mesh cleanup & texturing

AI and our 3D artists refine the mesh, smooth artifacts, and bake full-color, high-resolution texture onto the surface — faithful skin tones, fabric, and detail. Faces get an extra AI pass so eyes, features, and expression stay lifelike.

AI-enhanced faces · Full-color texture
Step 04

Auto-rigging

A skeleton is fitted automatically to the finished model, so your character can move the moment it's done. Walk, run, flip, and dance clips drop straight in — no manual weight-painting, no rigging studio, no waiting.

Auto-rigged · Animation-ready
Step 05

Measurement & scale

Because capture is calibrated, the model carries real-world measurements at true scale. That's what lets a figurine print at the exact right proportions and lets your character sit correctly in games, AR, and film pipelines.

True scale · Real measurements
Step 06

Export & deliver

The finished, rigged, textured model is delivered to your account as a standard file. Export it as GLB, USDZ, or OBJ, order a physical figurine, or keep it private — it's yours to use, move, or delete anytime.

Key capabilities

Everything that makes a scan production-ready.

The pipeline is only half the story. These are the capabilities baked into every MetaScan model.

Studio-grade multi-camera station

A professional capture rig with synchronized cameras and controlled lighting — the same photogrammetry approach used for film and games, brought to your event.

AI-enhanced faces

Faces get a dedicated AI finishing pass so features, eyes, and expression stay true-to-life — the part people notice first, done right.

True-to-life color & texture

High-resolution, full-color texture baked onto the surface — accurate skin tones, fabrics, and materials, not a muddy or washed-out mesh.

Auto-rigging that moves

Every scan is rigged automatically, so your character can walk, run, flip, and dance out of the box — ready to animate in your tools.

Real body measurements

Captured at true scale with real-world dimensions, so prints come out exactly right and characters sit correctly in any scene.

Standard formats that drop straight into games, AR, film, and 3D software — no proprietary lock-in, no conversion headaches.

Quality & accuracy

Why it actually looks real.

A scan reads as real when three things line up: enough resolution to hold fine detail, clean lighting so texture is captured faithfully, and accurate color. MetaScan is engineered around all three — which is why the finished model looks like the person, not an approximation.

High-resolution detail

Many synchronized viewpoints resolve fine geometry and crisp surface detail — the difference between a rough scan and a model that reads as real.

Controlled, even lighting

The station lights the subject evenly, so texture is captured cleanly with no harsh shadows baked in — the foundation of a faithful result.

Faithful color fidelity

Color is captured and reproduced true-to-life, so skin tones and materials look like the real thing across screens, AR, and print.

Auto-rigging in action

Reconstructed, rigged, and ready to move.

These are real MetaScan captures — reconstructed from photogrammetry and auto-rigged to walk, running live in your browser. Drag to spin them, and see the pipeline's output for yourself.

Speed

Captured in seconds. Delivered fast.

Traditional 3D of a real person can take hours of manual work. MetaScan collapses it — because capture is instant and reconstruction, texturing, and rigging are automated end to end.

Captured in seconds

At the station, every angle is photographed at the same instant — the capture itself is over in seconds, so there's nothing to hold still for.

Automated reconstruction

Reconstruction, mesh cleanup, texturing, and rigging run through an automated pipeline instead of days of manual 3D work.

Models delivered fast

Your finished, rigged, export-ready model lands in your account shortly after — ready to animate, export, or print.

Privacy & data

Your scan is yours.

Your likeness is personal, and we treat it that way. Your scan and biometric data stay private in your MetaScan account — you decide what happens to them. Export your model anytime, or delete it for good. We never sell your data.

Private by default

Your scan lives in your account — not shared, not public, unless you choose.

Never sold

We don't sell your scan or biometric data. Full stop.

Export anytime

Take your model with you as GLB, USDZ, or OBJ whenever you want.

Delete anytime

Remove your scan and data from your account for good, on your terms.

Formats & compatibility

Standard formats. Works everywhere.

Your model exports in the formats the industry already uses — so it drops straight into games, AR, film, and any 3D tool without conversion or lock-in.

FAQ

The technology, answered.

What technology powers MetaScan's 3D scanning?

MetaScan uses professional photogrammetry — a studio-grade station photographs you from many synchronized angles at once, then AI reconstructs those images into a dense, accurate 3D model. AI and our artists finish the mesh and texture, auto-rig it to move, and deliver an export-ready model at true scale.

How is photogrammetry different from a laser or lidar scan?

Photogrammetry captures full color and fine surface detail from real photographs, so the result looks true-to-life rather than a bare geometric shell. Capturing every angle at the same instant also means people can be scanned safely and comfortably — no slow sweep, no holding perfectly still.

What is auto-rigging, and why does it matter?

Auto-rigging automatically fits a skeleton to your finished model so it can move immediately — walk, run, flip, dance. Traditionally this is slow manual work; MetaScan does it for you, so your character is animation-ready the moment it's delivered.

Do the station and the app use the same technology?

Yes. The professional station is available at events right now and captures instantly; the mobile app is coming soon and will let you scan from your phone. Both paths run the same reconstruction pipeline and produce the same lifelike, rigged, export-ready 3D model.

Is my scan and biometric data private?

Your scan is yours. It stays private in your MetaScan account — you can export it or delete it anytime, and we never sell your data. You stay in control of your likeness.
